Corner Bakery - Bug In My Salad

Saturday, December 13, 2008

In case you missed last week ride, the club went to Corner Bakery Cafe in Laguna Niguel for breakfast after the bike ride. I've ordered a Turkey Sandwich with a side of Green Salad. After eating most of it, I saw to my surprise a large red bug below the lettuce. The bug was about 1 inch long and seemed to be in a perfect condition (with wings, legs, head …) and frozen.

Ugh, it was disgusting. I've never seen a bug in my food before.

So I called the manager and things got uglier. While Nitzani is busy documenting the bug with his camera, the manager shows up. I showed the manager the salad with the bug; he apologized and offers a refund. I gave him the receipt and he started to search the salad in my order saying it may not my receipt to my surprise, making the issue even worse. If that was my restaurant I would refund the whole table, offer other menu item, some gift card or compensation for this disgusting experience, but I guess I’m not running the show there. This manager was determined to find the exact cost of the salad…He end up refund the whole $11. Wow!
I think this should be learned in text books of how to NOT treat your guests. He actually took my card and said that they will check and get back to me… so far I have not heard from him or from Corner Bakery. Anyway, I think this whole experience will make me look for bugs next time I will order a salad…
